Last Friday night I finally got round to doing something I've been waiting months to go to and just haven't has the chance! I heard about Street Feast back in Feb when I had just moved to London; a street food festival held every Friday night and Saturday afternoon over the summer months. This sounded like my idea of heaven, and I've been following them on Twitter ever since, and finally my food envy could take it no longer!
It's at Dalston yard in East London, so me and the girls from work popped over straight from the office on Friday night to get stuck in!
As we arrived the smells and sights of all the incredible food were so overwhelming we went straight to the bar for ciders and cocktails before sitting down to strategically plan our evening of gastronomic delight!
We decided to stick to one base and send off small parties in search of tasty treats. There are so many things to choose from it's better to share lots of different things between you, so you can get a taste of of lots things!
The first thing that caught my eye were these beautiful scallops, but as each portion only had one scallop they didn't really lend themselves to sharing.
Instead we opted to start with tacos from Santo Remedio
These slow cooked pork tacos were so incredibly flavoursome and juicy.
And we had them with chicharron, which is basically the Mexican version of crackling, served with fresh guacamole.
Our next stop had to be Disco Bistro's Akita hot dogs with incredible Asian inspired toppings, including Miso and chilli mayo. They were tucked in the corner so they were out and about touting for business...who could resist this!
Our final stop was SmokeStak who were serving up the biggest beef rib you have ever seen in your life!! We couldn't quite handle one of those, but opted for pork rib and spicy rib tips to get stuck into.
Their stand was packed and the rib was literally flying off the barbeque, smothered in sticky sauce and chopped up at alarming speeds! How he managed not to chop a finger is amazing!
They tasted as good as they looked.
As the night fell the atmosphere ramped up; with the music pumping and the food and drink flowing.
All of a sudden two guys, followed by a hoard of kids, dragged in an oil drum, lit a fire and started handing out marshmallows to roast! A perfect dessert!
I would hugely recommend a visit to Street Feast. We didn't even get the chance to eat a tiny percentage of what was on offer from all those amazing chefs! Get down there next weekend and be prepared to have those taste buds tantalised!
