Foxlow

This weekend we got the chance to go to the soft opening of Foxlow, the new restaurant from those geniuses at Hawksmoor. After a chilled weekend we popped on the tube to Farringdon on Sunday lunchtime for a classic Sunday roast with a twist; the best kind if you ask me!

When you walk in the atmosphere is really light and friendly; the welcoming atmosphere is enhanced by a high table in the centre of the room with the day's papers inviting you to take a seat...for the rest of the day! The walls are tiled and the high ceilings and wooden floors make the place relaxed and unpretentious.

One of the biggest things that struck me was the 'salad bar' set-up near the door tantalising the eyes and nose and getting you in the mood for food!

Ian and I arrived first so we popped up to the bar and were heavily tempted by the cocktails on offer!

Unfortunately they'd run out of what would have been my first choice of slow-roasted beef shortrib, but the menu was perfectly concise and well rounded with classic steaks on the board as well as the standard menu that it didn't take long for me to plump for the squid, followed by the roasted smoked rib-eye with all the trimmings. All their meat is from The Ginger Pig butchers and it so makes the difference.

The squid was perfect!! Crispy but not rubbery in any way and perfectly seasoned - I could have eaten them all day. Word of warning though...they do it properly and keep the tentacles included so if you're a bit squeamish these might not be for you!

Three of us went for the rib eye, but Ian's uncle decided to be different and went for the Turkey and wasn't disappointed! The stuffing in the roasted onion was inspired, but the yorkshire pudding was cheesy...which was delicious, but not quite right (my only criticism).

By this point we were stuffed but managed to fit in a sundae each - which were ridiculously rich and decadent, but incredible.

As we were there for the soft opening the staff were still a bit inattentive at times, but all were really well trained and knew their stuff which is always nice to see.

They officially open on 14th November (this Thursday) so make sure you check them out - finally a great London restaurant without the uppity attitude!!! I'm sold.
