Lima Floral has to be the most unusual brunch I have experienced in London so far, and not necessarily in the right ways.
As the younger sibling of Michelin starred Peruvian restaurant Lima in Fitrovia I was expecting big things. We congregated for a girlie birthday brunch on a Saturday morning and were shown to our private dining area downstairs.
We sipped on smoothies, teas and coffees to ease us in (although with one server it was terribly difficult to get a regular pot of tea - she was convinced they didn't have regular tea which later turned out to be incorrect - most frustrating!) before plumping for the Andrean Breakfast and the Prosecco offer (4 glasses for £10).
It turns out the menu is slightly confusing, and a little misleading. Our actual starts consisted of fruit with yoghurt and honey (lovely) and quinoa porrdidge with bee pollen, which was very heavy on the cinnamon...not my thing.
No idea where the rest of the starters on the menu featured....
Next up were the mains...served family style (sharing plates). Unfortunately it took a while for the servers to give us individual plates to put the food onto, so it went quite cold. They also did not explain very well what each of the items were...so we were confused for a while why the fritattas were two different colours. We came to the conclusion that they were the same.
Egg frittata with spring onion - nice, but quite bland. Followed by suckling pig brioche buns - which unfortunately were a bit dry.
Followed by potato pancakes...nice, and covered with a treacley sauce and icing sugar.
For me the starters and mains hadn't quite hit was I was looking for...the individual dishes were nice on the whole, but they didn't seem to blend well into a fluid meal - especially for breakfast.
However, most of my discontent disappeared when the dessert was served. Two delightful shortbread biscuits with dulce de leche and chocolate mousse...I could have eaten that forever!
Overall the service was pretty basic, and the menu was a bit mis-matched. I was looking for unusual brunch dishes with a Peruvian flavour, but it just didn't hit it for me unfortunately! I haven't written it off yet though...hoping to go again for dinner and get a real feel for the cuisine on offer!
