Notting Hill Carnival

So apologies for the major delay in getting this post up! Carnival now seems like a distant, but happy memory; we went on the Sunday which is family day and has a lighter, less crushing atmosphere (in my opinion) than the Monday. That said; it was still pretty busy!!

We arrived early, around lunchtime, as we were catching up with old friends and wanted to spend some time chatting before getting into the full swing of the revelries! The parades had already started and we had front row seats (standing)...

After letting the incredible dancing, music and costumes ignite our senses we decided it was high time we sat down to tuck into some of the incredible smells which were emanating around Notting Hill. Having lived in the Caribbean for 9 months I was itching to taste some curried goat again so I plumped for this over the jerk chicken. There are so many stalls we found it really hard to decide which to go for, and unfortunately mine didn't have enough sauce, and the 'traditional' rice and peas weren't really flavoured in the 'traditional' way.

I did taste some of the girls' jerk chicken though, which was awesome! I would definitely recommend that next time!

With full tummies and Red Stripe in hand we then decided to get stuck in, get our faces painted and get twerking.

We spent most of our day at Powis Square soaking up the World Music being played there, nipping round the corner to a man selling ice cold beers and watching the parade every now and then. It's an absolute nightmare to contact/find/meet up with anyone once you're there, so we found it easiest to stick to one identifiable base!

After a long day in the sun, filled with sounds, sights and smells of the Caribbean which brought back a lot of Guadeloupe memories we sauntered off home as the sun began to set, satisfied with yet another incredible year at the Carnival.
