Breakfast of Champions

This weekend is the Sainsbury's Anniversary Games; one year on from the incredible London Olympic Games and 'sporting fever' is rife in the city.

One fantastic sporting event happening this weekend, other than the Anniversary Games happening at the Olympic Stadium, was the Virgin Active London Triathlon at ExCel. Putting us less active to shame my friend Ollie took part; so we headed east to support him. However, no sporting champion, or their supporters, can undertake such a great feat without a breakfast to set them up. Ollie's breakfast of Soreen Maltloaf did little to get the spectators' tastebuds buzzing, so we opted for a more fulfilling brunch.

Like any good meal; this brunch commenced with a light starter of fresh pastries, OJ and lashings of freshly made coffee (with chocolate sprinkles for energy, of course)

This was followed by a conscience-satisfying bowl of grapes and strawberries...

Before we went a little off the health-track and pre-empted Ollie's success with a toast! (Just water for him though...)

The main event was nothing less than a serious band of Triathlon spectators could expect; toast with lashings of butter, sausages, bacon, poached eggs and beans.

At this point we did start to feel a little guilty for eating this lot in front of Ollie...but we needed our strength too for all that cheering and whooping which was about to happen!

Finally it was time to head off and do what was expected of us so we hopped on down to the water to pick out Ollie's tiny white head in a sea of swimmers....

It was easier to pick him out in the run...

After just an hour and half, 750m of swimming, 20km of cycling and 5km of running we spotted him speeding to the finish line where we were there; fuelled on by breakfast, to shout the loudest and cheer the hardest. Even if I do say so myself...

A huge congratulations to everyone who took part in the London Triathlon this weekend; I was almost tempted to sign up for next year's...almost. Here's to a  truly inspiring weekend of sport!
