Saturday night was girl's night out, so we hit the swanky streets of Sloane Square to try out Tonteria, the Mexican 'new Public', for frozen margaritas and the most eclectic playlist I've heard in a long time!
As huge fans of Public before it was closed down we were expecting good things - and were not disappointed!
Through a very well disguised door next to the Botanist on the corner of Sloane Square we headed down a wooden staircase to be greeted by this crazy looking chap as we entered the Mexican tapas restaurant-cum-bar. We were greeted by an incredible smell of food, and a rather surprising 70s disco medley, which then seamlessly mixed into David Guetta and Lady Gaga, back to Marvin Gaye, then Michael Jackson and a dash of Chase and Status all in the space of about 10 minutes. It was like my iPod on shuffle and I was immediately hooked! Word of warning - if you are even slightly more edgy than a circle then you may not be a fan of the music, unless of course you can also appreciate the skill of a DJ who manages to remix Jackson 5 with Calvin Harris.
We immediately plumped for bigger-than-my-head frozen margaritas at the bar, but had so much choice we could have been there for hours choosing one of many sharing cocktails, which come in skulls, Mexican wrestler heads, trains and more. When you order one to a table they're presented to you by a Nacho Libre-esque Mexican wrestler, and his posse of scantily-clad firework-waving women.
As we expected from our much beloved Public the place is small, and packed to the brim with well-dressed and enviously wealthy types ordering bottles of Belvedere and champagne left right and centre. But we didn't let that put us off - we danced non-stop from the moment we arrived, until we just couldn't dance any more, before heading home with a happy replacement for our lost love Public.
