Taste of London

Taste of London falls around my birthday every year, so this year I managed to spend my birthday doing two of my favourite things: eating and drinking in the sunshine of Regent's Park.

For those of you who don't know...Taste is a food festival which brings together all of London's best restaurants to showcase 4 dishes, as well as hundreds of food and drinks producers who can show and sell their beautiful wares. It's a great way to eat some of the best food which London has to offer.

We'd woken up with a big breakfast so when we arrived we weren't too hungry...which is probably for the best! Instead, got the lay of the land, and wandered around the site with a drink. I opted for Prosecco, naturally, while Ian got to pour his own beer.

After bit of a wander our appetite came back, so we started with a nibble on some Iberico Ham from Jose Pizzaro

And stopped a while to watch Michel Roux Jnr do his thing.

Next, it was time to start on the real eating. Which for me, consisted of a tempura shrimp with black quinoa from Sushisamba for me, and a BBQ pork rib bun from Kurobuta for Ian.

Eating tends to be thirsty work, especially in the heat of that day, so we washed these down with gin and tonics. We were tempted by by these eclectic chaps in their stand made up like a living room, but plumped for London's Sipsmiths and their deck chairs,

After a nice sit and a people watch it was back to the real purpose of the day. For me that was ceviche from Lima Floral. Those who follow the blog with know I didn't have a great time when I visited for brunch but I was determined to improve the relationship, and what better thing to eat from a Peruvian restaurant than ceviche? It didn't disappoint.

Ian had a curry which wasn't really up to much, but we did need another sit down, and this set-up from Chase was just too good to refuse.

After a lazy couple of hours it was time to perk up, with coffee and dessert so we went in search.

We came across Cru Kafe coffee which was an instant hit with us as their capsules fit in our nespresso machine, so we took a bag of the light roast capsules home.

Our final activity of the day was a Mojito-making class with Havana Club where we were taught how to make a real Cuban Mojito (for just £5!) and we got to keep the tins we made them in too!

I love Taste of London as it gives me a chance to eat all the best food in London for a fraction of the price. However, it is an expensive day all-in, as you have to pay for all the dishes on top of your entrance fee. It was a great birthday though, and a perfect way to celebrate!
